나이브 아트
naive art

아카데미 미술 교육을 받지 않고 스스로 독학한 화가들을
나이브 아트라고 불러요. 

사실 그렇게 중요하진 않아요.

“나는 나이브 아트야!”라고 생각하며 그림을 그린 화가는 없었거든요.

이러한 분류는 나중에 학자들이 나눈 것뿐이에요.

고갱부터, 피카소가 나의 아버지라 부른 루소, 바스키아까지.

작가가 쓰는 것이 아니라, 쓰는 사람이 작가이듯이,
화가가 그리는 것이 아니라, 그리는 사람이 화가라는 마음.

사실, 우리 모두는 나이브 아트 작가예요.

아주 잠시 잊고 지낸 것뿐이에요.

Artists who never received formal academic art education
and taught themselves how to paint
are often called Naive Artists.

But honestly, that name is not so important.

No artist ever painted while thinking,
“I am making Naive Art!”

Such classifications were only made later by scholars.

From Gauguin, to Rousseau — whom Picasso once called “my father” —
to Basquiat.

Just as it is not the writer who writes,
but the one who writes who becomes a writer,

it is not the painter who paints,
but the one who paints who becomes a painter.

In truth, we are all Naive Artists.

We had only forgotten it for a little while.
